If you’ve ever opened up a social media app, stared at the blinking cursor, and thought “Where the heck am I supposed to be showing up?” — you’re not alone.
There are so many platforms.Instagram. Facebook. LinkedIn. TikTok. Threads. YouTube. Pinterest. X (formerly Twitter).
And the worst advice I see floating around online?
“Be everywhere.”
Friend, no.
You’re not meant to chase every algorithm. You’re meant to create content that aligns with where your audience is — and where you show up best.
Let’s simplify this together.
You Don’t Need to Be Everywhere — You Need to Be in the Right Place
If social media is the dog of your marketing strategy (loyal, helpful, high-touch), then platform choice is the leash.
It’s what gives direction. It keeps the energy aligned. And it helps you focus on where you can build traction without burning out.
Here’s what I tell every client I work with:
The best platform is the one your people use, and you can commit to consistently.
That’s it. Not the newest trend. Not the one with the most influencers. The one where your people hang out and you feel good showing up.
Step 1: Know Your Audience
Who are you trying to reach?
If you’re working with Gen Z creators, TikTok or Instagram might be your sweet spot.If you’re coaching corporate clients or doing B2B work, LinkedIn is gold.If you’re a handmade product business? Pinterest might be your secret weapon.
Every platform has a vibe. Your job is to figure out where your people naturally spend time and meet them there.
Example: One of my clients is a life coach for women 45+. She was convinced she needed TikTok.But guess where her actual leads were coming from?Facebook and email.
We shifted her focus, dialed in her message, and guess what? Her engagement tripled within a month.
It wasn’t about “more” — it was about alignment.
Step 2: Know Yourself
Are you camera-shy but love writing?LinkedIn or Facebook might be your jam.
Do you love storytelling through short-form video?Instagram Reels or TikTok could be a win.
Love long-form how-tos and educational deep dives?YouTube or even Pinterest (yes, with linked blog content!) might be your perfect match.
You do not have to change your personality to succeed online. You just have to lean into what works for you — and let that guide your platform decision.
And here’s the honest truth:
When you enjoy the way you’re showing up, you’ll show up more often. And that is what grows your business.
Step 3: Focus Before You Expand
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes strategy I use with most of my clients:
We start with one primary platform.
We optimize their content for that space.
Then we repurpose and repost to 1–2 secondary platforms (if it feels right).
No more than that.
Why? Because scattered content = scattered energy.Focused content = momentum.
Example: If Instagram is your home base, your content can double as:
A Facebook post
A Pinterest pin (with a linked blog or product)
A LinkedIn story (with a business-tailored caption)
A TikTok (with a slight edit)
But it only works if you start with focus first.
Step 4: Watch Your Metrics — Not Your Feelings
Sometimes it feels like a post flopped. But did you check your link clicks? Did someone quietly DM? Did they share it with a friend?
Don’t let comparison drive you to abandon your strategy too early.
Instead, track what matters:
Are you building relationships?
Are people engaging with your content?
Are your posts leading to website traffic, list growth, or discovery calls?
If so — you're doing great.Consistency compounds. Keep going.
What Victory Assistants Clients Learn Fast
Here’s what I help my clients realize quickly:
They don’t need to do everything. They need to do the right things — in the right place — with the right system.
One of my favorite moments is when a client tells me,
“I didn’t even realize I could repurpose this post three other ways — and now I’m ahead for the month.”
That’s the power of platform clarity.
It gives you time back. It gives your energy direction. It gives your business consistency that converts.
